The Dual Alliance, October 1879

• This agreement was aimed specifically at Russia
• If either country was attacked by Russia full military support had to be provided
• If either country was attacked by another power then the other would provide mutual support, non-military support
• The agreement would remain secret
• The agreement would last 5 years with the expectation it would be renewed
• The alliance was renewed and lasted till the outbreak of WWI in 1914
