  • Arthropods are invertebrates with jointed legs and an exoskeleton
  • Exoskeleton is a skeleton outside of the body that allows them to live on dry lamd. It is made up of a Chemical called Chitin
  • Arthropods consist of:
    • Insects
    • Crustaceans
    • Myriapods
    • Arachnids
  • Characteristics of insects:
    • Body divided into 3 parts (head, thorax abdomen)
    • Usually have wings
    • Have one pair of antennae
    • Have compound eyes
  • Characteristics of Crustaceans:
    • Two pairs of antennaes
    • Three pairs of mouth parts
    • Often exoskeleton made up of calcium with salts (protects and makes them heavy)
  • Characteristics of Myriapods:
    • One pair of antennae
    • One or two pair of legs attached to every segment
  • Characteristics of Arachnids:
    • Body divided into two parts (head thorax and abdomen)
    • Four pairs of jointed legs joined to the cephalothorax
    • No antennae
  • Examples of Crustaceans are:
    1. Crabs
    2. Lobsters
  • Examples of Myriapods are:
    1. Centipedes
    2. Millipedes
