  • lymphatic system - network of tissues and organs responsible for the removal of toxins and waste in the human body.
  • Structure of the Lymphatic System
    • composed of fluids or lymph which is similar to plasma but is composed of 95% water.
    • lymph is transported throughout the system through the lymphatic vessels, ducts, and masses of lymph tissue called nodes.
  • Function of Lymphatic
    1. It transports the tissue fluids back intothe bloodstream.
    2. It removes impurities.
    3. It processes lymphocytes.
    4. It transports the fats absorbed from the small intestine into the bloodstream.

    Splenomegaly - enlargement of the spleen

    Lymphosarcoma - a type of cancer that develops from lymphocytes
    Lymphoma - cancer of the lymphatic system that begins in the lymphocytes
