  • Orsino is with his attendants, and Feste is sent for in order to play an old song which Orsino requests, Viola appreciates the music which leads to Orsino asking if she is in love
  • Feste sings a melancholy song about a man who longs for death because of unrequited love, this spurs Orsino on again to seek Olivia's love, saying that no woman could love as strongly as he does
  • Viola's contradicts Orsino by telling him a story about her "sister" (really herself), who was deeply in love but unable to tell her feelings, Orsino is then moved to ask whether the "sister" dies of her love, to which Viola gives an enigmatic response
  • Viola reminds Orsino about Olivia and she is sent off to her with another jewel as a token of love from Orsino
  • This is a vital scene as it establishes the power of Viola's feelings for Orsino and his deepening attachment to her
