    • litter
    • traffic congestion - especially during summer/weekends. not enough parking, congestion spoils the village
    • footpath erosion from overuse - e.g. near Mam Tor
    • conflict with other land users - e.g. farmers and walkers
  • How are tourism problems being handled?
    Footpath erosion - resurfacing paths in local stone or re-routing certain paths to reduce the impact of erosion
    Litter - an increase in litter bins planted around the village
  • What problems are caused by industry in the area?

    cement works:
    • south-east of Castleton. uses limestone quarried nearby.
    • it poses as an eyesore (visual pollution).
    • contributes to noise pollution from trucks transporting limestone and the quarry mining
    • dust is blown from the works and the trucks
