  • asocial- 0-6 weeks: Begin to form a bond with carers. behave similarly to humans and non-human objects but prefer familiar adults as they are easily soothed by them
  • indiscriminate- Six weeks to six months clear preference for people than objects and recognise familiar adults .accept comfort from all adults no separation/ stranger anxiety
  • specific- 7 months onwards : display anxiety towards strangers A specific attachment to an adult who is now known as the primary caregiver they attach based on who is most sensitive to the infant signals rather than who spent the most time with them
  • multiple- 11 months onward: Extend attachments to adults they spend the most time with secondary attachments.' Secondary attachments'
