• SONAR is an acronym that stands for Sound Navigation And Ranging
• Sonar technology uses sound waves to help watercraft (e.g., boats and submarines) navigate through bodies of water and map the seafloor
• Sonar technology sends out a sound wave into the water, and works in a similar way as does echolocation
