Conflict and resolution

• Nora tries to save helmers pride which resulted in her keeping a secret from him in which she borrowed money
• Secrets cause conflicts later on in relationships and money casues conflicts

• "Helmer must know the truth... They must come to a full understanding" - Mrs Linde
• The idea that only truth will save Nora and Helmer's marriage
• symbolism of Torvald's office "From his room", the separation of Nora and Torvald shows that they don't really know each other past being married and Nora is never allowed in his office
• conflict in the sense that they're practically strangers who will struggle to work together
• Ibsen believed that rather than just living together, husband and wives should live as equals and should be free to be their own human beings Ibsen and his wife had a good relationship
• "the street door is slammed shut downstairs"
• Nora taking the stance and leaving fixes the root problem of the conflict which is their marriage and differences in it
• Sometimes there is no resolution other than to leave and reinvent yourself

• Torvald is the symbol of society having potential to change but only when things are taken out of the equation, in this instance Nora is taken out and resolution comes
