  • Rule of Law: The law is applied fairly and equally; no one is above the law.
  • Presumption of Innocence example: The prosecution (the party looking to charge someone) has the burden of proving the charge and guarantees that no guilt can be presumed until the charge has been proved beyond reasonable doubt in court.
  • Right to a fair trial example: You cannot be discriminated against, regardless of religion, gender, sex, or any other discriminatory factors.
  • Remain impartial example: Jurors and Judges must have an open mind and listen to all evidence from both sides.
  • Remain impartial example: Cannot be swayed by popular opinion based on certain discriminatory factors.
  • The law is known and accessible.
