motor disorders

• tic - a sudden, rapid, recurrent, nonrhythmic motor movement or vocalization
• Tourette's disorder - presence of BOTH motor and vocal tics for MORE than a year
• persistent tic disorder - presence of motor OR vocal tics for MORE than a year
• provisional tic disorder - presence of motor OR/BOTH vocal tics for LESS than a year
• developmental coordination disorder

  • acquisition and execution of coordinated motor skills is "below than expected" given the individual's chronological age and opportunity for skill learning and use.
  • persistently interferes with the daily lives of the client.
• stereotypic movement disorder

  • repetitive, seemingly driven, and "apparently purposeless motor behavior".
  • the repetitive motor behavior interferes with social, academic, or other activities and may result in self-injury.
