  • schizophrenia - A mental disorder characterized by delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thoughts, speech and behavior.
    *lasts longer than 6 months
  • Schizotypal disorder
    • marked by "acute discomfort with", and "reduced capacity for, close relationships"
    • has cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentricities of behavior
    • "beginning by early adulthood" and present in a variety of contexts
  • brief psychotic disorder
    Presence of one (or more) of the following symptoms AT LEAST 1 DAY BUT LESS THAN 1 MONTH. At least one of these must be 1, 2, or 3:
    1. Delusions.
    2. Hallucinations.
    3. Disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence).
    4. Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior.
  • schizophreniform disorder
    • Presence of two (or more) of the following symptoms at least 1 month. At least one of these must be 1, 2, or 3:
    1. Delusions.
    2. Hallucinations.
    3. Disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence).
    4. Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior.
    5. Negative Symptoms
  • schizoaffective disorder
    • mood symptoms occur alongside psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations or delusions.
    • essentially, a blend of mood disorder and schizophrenia elements, while schizophrenia predominantly focuses on psychotic symptoms.
