simple molecule substences

    Cards (5)

    • made up of molecules containing a few atoms joined by covalent bonding e.g H2, HCL
    • the atoms within the molecules are held together by strong covalent bonds however the forces of attraction between these molecules are very weak
    • to melt or boil a simple molecule compound, the weak intermolecular forces between the molecules must be overcome
    • boiling and melting point are low as there is not much energy needed to break the intermolecular forces between molcules
    • they dont conduct electricity as they are not charged so there are no free electrons
