  • Importance of rhythm
    Dance is the expression of feelings when listening to music. Music inspires movement to express emotions. Without music, movement is not dancing, just physical motion
  • Beat or pulse in music
    The steady repetitive pattern that gives the timing of the music
  • Phrases in music
    Each phrase has an opening and ending place within the pulse and then repeats itself. Known as the Dancer’s count, Dancer’s bar, or Dancer's measure
  • Learning to dance
    Listen to the music, find the pulse or rhythm, find each phrase, and move your body through the step patterns on the correct beat of each phrase
