Measuring Resistance

• Resistance - actively refusing/going against the government
• Opposition - holding ideas that go against the government, but not always actively fighting
• Long term/Short term impact: Engagement - did it include many people? Success - where aims achieved? (scale) Does anything actually change?
• Domestic support: Reported on by media (positively), inspires resistance and international support - is it being talked about in the rest of the world?
• Government backlash: The more response - the more effective, except very harsh punishments (banning parties, newspapers etc), which reduces long term resistance as future opposition would then be harder
