Bio fuels and Non Renewables

Cards (6)

  • What are bio-fuels made from?
Renewable resources such as plants, crops, and organic waste.
  • They can be gas , liquid or solid and can be burnt to produce electricity or run cars in the same way as fossil fuels
  • They are meant to be carbon neutral but there is a debate about this as its only if plants are grown at the same rate as they are being burnt
  • Reliable as crops don't take long to grow and grow all year along. The cost for bio fuels is very high so some concern is set that there is not enough space for bio fuels. Large forest areas have been cleared for room to grow bio fuels but this destroys habitats. Decay and burning also releases Carbon Dioxide and Methane
  • Examples of non renewable fuels?
    -Nuclear fuels
    -Fossil fuels
  • Non renewable fuels are reliable but have a very negative effect on our environment. These resources are slowly running out as well leading to the need of finding other methods for fuel. Much more cost effective than bio fuels
