  • COMPUTER HARDWARE - is the collection of physical parts of a computer system. This includes the computer case, monitor, keyboard and mouse. It also includes all the parts inside the computer case. such as the hard disk drive, motherboard, video card, and many others. Computer hardware is what you can physically touch
  • Motherboard - a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer or other device connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted.
  • CPU - stands for "Central Processing Unit”. The CPU is the primary component of a computer that processes instructions. It runs the operating system and applications, constantly receiving input from the user or active software programs. It processes the data and produces output, which may be stored by an application or displayed on the screen.
  • RAM - RAM stands for “Random-Access Memory”, but what does that mean? Your computer's RAM is essentially short-term memory where data is stored as the processor needs it This isn't to be confused with long-term data that's stored on your hard drive, which stays there even when your computer is turned off.
  • GPU (DEDICATED/INTEGRATED) - (Graphics Processing Unit) A programmable processor. specialized for rendering all images on the computer's screen. A GPU performs parallel operations. Although it is used for 2D data as well as for zooming and panning the screen, a GPU is essential for smooth decoding and rendering of 3D animations and video.
  • HARD DRIVE - hard disk drive, hard disk, hard drive, or fixed is an electro-mechanical data storage device that stores and retrieves digital data using magnetic storage with one or more rigid rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material.
  • SOLID STATE DRIVES - A device that uses integrated circuit assemblies to store data persistently, typically using flash memory and functioning as secondary storage in the computer storage hierarchy.
  • POWER SUPPLY - an electrical device that supplies electrical power to an electrical load. The main purpose of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency.
  • Input devices 1. Keyboard 2. Mouse 3. Joystick 4. Scanner 5. Web camera 6. Microphone
  • Output devices 1. Monitor 2. Printer 3. Speaker 4. Headphone 5. Projector 6. Brail reader 7. Plotter
  • Computer Software - is a type of computer program that is designed to run a computer's hardware and application programs. If we chink of the computer system as a layered model, the system software is the interface between the hardware and user applications.
  • SYSTEM SOFTWARE a. Operating system (Windows, Linux, MacOS) b. Utility sofiare (Antivirus, Backup, Disk compression, file manager) ● e.g windows, mac os, linux
  • disk operating system, is an operating system that runs from a SK drive. The term can also refer to a particular family of SK operating systems, most commonly MS-DOS. an acronym for Microsoft DOS
  • APPLICATION SOFTWARE a. Word Processing Software - Word, WordPad, Notepad b. Database Software (Microsoft Access, Oracle) Spreadsheet software Presentation software (PowerPoint) Internet browser
  • Database software allows users to maintain, store, access, and save data in a central location. It also enables users to easily manage permissions and access the database, creating a secure environment for the data.
  • A database management system (DBMS) is system software for creating and managing databases
  • MySQL - is an open-source relational database management system. It’s name is a combination of “My". the name of co-founder Michael Widenius's daughter. and SQL, the abbreviation for Structured Query Language
  • FileMaker - is a cross-platform relational database application from Claris International, a subsidiary of Apple Inc. It integrates a database engine with a graphical user interface (GUl) and security features. allawing users to modify a database by dragging new clements into layouts, screens, or forms.
  • Presentation software (PowerPoint) - computer programs designed to allow the user to present information in an engaging way such as with text, pictures, sound, and video. PowerPoint is an example of a presentation software.
  • MULTIMEDIA - the use of a computer to present and combine text graphics, audio, and video with links and tools that let the user navigate, interact, create, and communicate. - e.g. ML, tiktok, netflix
  • DATA ASSESSMENT a. Big Data - Big data analytics is the use of advanced analytic techniques against very large, diverse big data sets that include structured, semi-structured and unstructured data, from different sources, and in different sizes from terabytes to zettabytes. b. NVTVO - NVtvo is a software program used for qualitative and mixed-methods research. Specifically, it is used for the analysis of unstructured text. audio, video, and image data, including (but not limited to) interviews, focus groups, surveys, social media, and journal articles.
  • Personal Informatics (PI) systems allow users to collect and review personally relevant information. The purpose commonly envisioned for these systems is that they provide users with actionable data-driven self-insight to help them change their behavioral pattern for the better. - A class of tools that help people to collect personally relevant information for the purpose of self-reflection and self-monitoring.
  • HEALTHCARE INFORMATICS - is the interprofessional field that studies and pursues the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem-solving, decision-making, motivated by efforts to improve human health.
  • Educational Informatics - Education is a critical component of many nursès informatics functions and may directly affect the success or failure of any new or modified IT solution. Nurse's role as an educator for consumers and the heightened emphasis on evidence-based practice, nurses must be properly prepared to be eHealth literate
  • NETWORK - A computer network is a set of computers sharing resources located on or provided by network nodes. The computers use common communication protocols over digital interconnections to communicate with each other:
  • SERVER - a computer program or device that provides a service to another computer program and its user, also known as the client.
  • MODEM - A modulator-demodulator or modem is a computer hardware device that converts data from a digital format into a format suitable for an analog transmission medium such as telephone or radio.
  • CLIENTS - in a network, a desktop Computer or workstation that is capable of obtaining information and applications on a server
  • PEER - In networking, a peer is a code that provides the same functionality as another. For example, two desktop PCs in a network are peers. A desktop PC and a server are not peers they perform different operations
  • FTP (THE FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL) - a standard communication protocol used for the transfer of computer files from a server to a client on a computer network
