  • What was the project called that improved food security on a national scale ?
    Tanzania-Canada Wheat Programme
  • What are the poistive outcomes of the attempt to improve food security on a national scale ?
A positive outcome of this project is it provided 60% of all of Tanzania's wheat. Another positive outcome was 121 Tanzanians recieved training in wheat production. This allowed people to earn an income, learn a new skill and provide for their families. Another positive outcome is roads, rails and electricity improved so people were able to commute efficiently.
  • What are the negative outcomes of the attempt to improve food security on a national scale ? (1)
A negative outcome of the Tanzania-Canada Wheat Programme was most Tanzanians ate maize and could not afford bread made using wheat. This meant that for many Tanzanians there wasn't really a need to grown wheat, as low technology maize might have been better.
  • What are the negative outcomes of the attempt to improve food security on a national scale ? (2)
Another negative outcome is Tanzania could not afford spare parts and fuel for tractors and combine harvesters as many parts are rusted or unused. This led to Tanzania having to buy spare parts from Canada which meant Tanzania was losing money. The biggest winners were the Canadian manufactures.
  • CONCLUSION FOR TANZANIA-CANADA WHEAT PROGRAMME
I think that the Tanzania-Canada Wheat Programme was unsuccessful as the food security worsened in places like Barabigs. Also there was only a few jobs created so there was no diversity in the job sector. Also if this attempt was proven to be successful it would have continued.
