  • What is SAGCOT ?
    SAGCOT is a large project started in 2010. It aims to improve farming in Tanzania in a 'growth corridor'.
  • What is the positives of SAGCOT ?
    A positive outcome is 2 million people were lifted out of poverty. This meant that the HDI index in Tanzania and peoples quality of life increases. Another positive outcome was 450,000 jobs were created which increased the diversity in the job sectors, so people were able to earn an income and provide for their families.
  • What is a positive outcome of SAGCOT ?
    Another positive outcome is over $1 million was invested into roads, rails, electricity and water infrastructure so people were able to commute efficiently.
  • What are the negative outcomes of SAGCOT ?
    A negative outcome of SAGCOT is majority of the money invested benefited large commercial farms so affected small commercial farms. Another disadvantage was a lot of promises were not fulfilled. Another negative outcome was small landowners had not been involved in the decision making which doesn't allow them to pitch in their ideas.
