Aerating the soil

• Earthworms, ants and termites dig underground tunnels
• This digging loosens the soil and traps more air between the soil particles which makes it easier for water to infiltrate the soil
• Because the soil is loose, plant roots can penetrate deeper into the soil to obtain water and nutrients
