LATEX SENSITIVITY

• Irritant contact dermatitis - occurs as a result of direct skin contact with materials left on the latex surface during manufacturing
• Allergic contact dermatitis - true allergic response in which the body's immune system reacts to the proteins or other components of the latex
• Anaphylaxis - a rapid, severe immune reaction where the airway swells shut, heart rate increases, and blood pressure drops
