  • What is the local scheme to improve food security in Tanzania ?
    Goat Aid
  • INTRO TO 6 MARKER (SUCCESS OF LOCAL SCHEME)
Tanzania had an issue with food security so they had an investment of 200,000 pounds by Farm Africa.
  • What are the positives of the local scheme to improve food security in Tanzania ?
Farm Africa imported Toggenburg goats that had a cost of 400 pounds each because they produced 3 litres of milk. This was important as it gave families a more nutritious diet and the manure from the goats improved crops which meant people were able to have more food. They also earned money from selling milk, butter, cheese and extra crops.
  • What are the negatives of the local scheme to improve food security in Tanzania?
However there is some criticisms to Goat Aid as the goats require a lot of water, which is a very scarce resource so the yields in which goats drink puts stress on the water resource. Another negative outcome is the vetenary bills for when goats get sick are high, so it is expensive to pay for the goats to get better, which might lead to them dying. Also another negative outcome is Goat Aid is a small scale project and is therefore isn't ambitious in trying to improve the countries food security as a whole.
  • In my opinion I think that Goat Aid was an unsuccessful way to improve food security as hoofed animals increased between 1961 and 2005, and poverty increased.
