  • Method - Meta-analysis off 32 studies of strange situation different countries ( Japan, Britain, Sweden etc.) analysed to find any overall pattern
  • Meta-analysis - where researchers combine the findings from multiple studies to draw an overall conclusion.
  • results: secure or insecure attachent - similar across all countries used, more differences within the actually countries than than between them
  • method: distribution of type of insecure attachment - western cultures was insecure avoidant, highest amount in Germany. Non western cultures insecure resistant, highest amount in Japan
  • Conclusion - there are cross cultural similarities in raising children, with common reaction to thee 'strange situations'
  • evaluation: disadvantage - children are brought up in different ways in different cultures so may have different types of attachment. 'strange situations' may not have been a suitable method to use. better use different study which revealed different pattens.
