  • Bars form when there is a change in direction on a coastline which allows a sheltered area for deposition.
  • Bars form when a spit grows across the entrance to a bay due to long shore drift (explain) (and more constructive waves than destructive waves).
  • A spit growing across a bay connects two headlands and enclsoes a sheltered lagoon behind it.
  • The lagoon forms as there is no strong flow of river water to the sea.
