Waterfall

• Waterfalls form where hard resistant rock sits on top of soft less resistant rock.
• Differential erosion takes place, which is when the soft, less resistant rock erodes quicker then the hard rock.
• Add processes and explanations (4-6 marks)
• Undercutting causes an overhang which eventually collapses into the plunge pool due to gravity.
• The plunge pool can be further deepened by materials from the collapse of the overhang. The waterfall continues to retreat upstream and a steep sided gorge is cut back into the hillside.
