Need for management/problems

Cards (13)

  • Car ownership has increased dramatically over past few decades, leading to increased congestion and increased CO2 emmisions
  • Main roads (e.g. Duke street) lead directly into Glasgows CBD, they are designed this way as the CBD contains the most shops, offices and entertainmaents
  • Grid iron street pattern was designed for horses not cars, because of the grid iron there are many junction which increases queuing and congestion, narrow roads not suitable for modern traffic movement
  • Due to heavy traffic congestion, roads deteriorate and have potholes, this means that there will be delays due to roadworks fixing the potholes
  • Glasgows CBD attracts many people everyday because of the shops and work places, this increases number of cars, buses and taxis which use the roads, increasing traffic congestion and road deterioration
  • Parked cars narrow the roads and restrict the traffic flow, increasing traffic congestion
  • Many shops means that when lorries are making deliveries to the shops it blocks the roads and increases traffic congestion
  • Many taxis and buses stopping causes traffic delays
  • Many pedestrians means lots of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings which causes traffic delays
  • Increase of traffic congestion results in late deliveries, people getting to work late and delaying of emergency services (e.g. ambulances and fire engines) resulting in possible loss of life
  • Traffic delays also leads to anger amongst drivers and may result in accidents
  • Exhaust fumes from stationary vehicles causes an increase of air pollution to dangerous levels
  • Air pollutants include: Nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide which is a health risk for people. (e.g. Hope street in Glasgow is the most polluted street in Scotland)
