• Act one


  1. There's a fight between two rival families the Montagues and the Capulets

  2. The prince stops the fighting

  3. Romeo tells Benvolio about his unrequited love for Rosaline

  4. Paris asks Capulet if he can marry his daughter Juliet, Capulet says he will think about it

  5. Capulets throw a ball

  6. Romeo and Benvolio gate crash the ball

  7. Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time. They talk and kiss without realising that they're from rival families
• Act two


  1. Romeo sneaks into the Capulet garden to look for Juliet

  2. Juliet is at her window thinking out loud about how much she likes Romeo

  3. Romeo overhears and comes to talk to her and they decide to get married

  4. Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence and asks him for help to marry Romeo and Juliet

  5. Romeo meets with his friends Mercutio and Benvolio, they tease the nurse and make fun of her when she gives him a message from Juliet

  6. The nurse tells Juliet that the wedding has been organised for that afternoon

  7. Romeo and Juliet get married in secret
• Act three and four

  1. Juliet's cousin Tybalt kills Mercutio in a fight

  2. Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge

  3. The prince banishes Romeo from Verona as punishment

  4. Romeo and Juliet spend the night together before Romeo leaves

  5. Juliet's parents tell her she is to marry Paris in two days time whether she likes it or not, but she can't because she is already married to Romeo

  6. Juliet asks the Friar for help and he has a plan

  7. Juliet fakes her own death with a sleeping potion. Friar Lawrence sends Romeo a letter telling him to rescue Juliet from the tomb when the potion wears off

  8. Juliet's family think that she is dead and bury her in the family tomb
• Act five


  1. Romeo doesn't get the letter from the Friar, he hears Juliet is dead and goes to the tomb to kill himself

  2. Paris sees Romeo going into the tomb, they fight and Romeo kills Paris

  3. Romeo lies next to Juliet and drinks the poison

  4. Friar finds out that Romeo didn't get the letter, so he goes to the tomb and arrives just as Juliet wakes up

  5. The Friar doesn't want to get in trouble for Romeo's death. When Juliet won't come away from the tomb with him, he runs away

  6. Juliet is left alone, when she realises that Romeo is dead she kills herself

  7. Everyone arrives at the tomb, the Friar is brought back by a watchman and explains what has happened

  8. Montague and Capulet realise that their feud had caused the death of their children

  9. They make peace
