  • Features of Renaissance art:
    1. Perspective: The painting in Source 2 uses perspective, so things in the background are smaller and the flooring becomes diminutive in the distance. This makes the painting more realistic.
    2. sfumato blending and smudging of colours to make the skin of a person appear soft in painting.
    3. Anatomy: The artist of Source 2 is familiar with anatomy as the proportions and faces of the figures in the painting look a lot more realistic than the figures in Source 1.

    Change: Vernacular — writers in the Renaissance, such as William Shakespeare, started to write in the language of the common people instead of writing in Latin.
  • Leonardo da Vinci has many achievements. He was a skill painter many of his paintings are known worldwide e.g. the Mona Lisa and the last supper. Leonardo da Vinci has many achievements. Millions of people go and see the Monalisa in the Louvre in France. He invented aeroplanes,cars,tanks and submarines centuries before they were invented. He also wrote in mirror writing so that no one can read it and it won’t be copied. He is considered the “renaissance man“.
  • Patrons were important because they commissioned artists to produce art work for them,this provided them with an income. They were so important as they helped Renaissance art flourish - De Medici of Florence.

  • Effects of the development of the printing press
    • More people learned to read and write
    • It led to peop.e challenging the ideas of the church as the Catholic Churches area over learning declined. (Fiction - source of entertainment)

  • Renaissance cause:
    • The ruins of the Roman Empire: Italy was the centre of the ancient Roman Empire. This meant that the remains of Roman buildings and art were everywhere. As Italian towns and cities expanded, they dug up Roman statues.All these things inspired Italians and many of them wanted to copy the achievements oftheir ancestors.

    • It was the capital of the eastern Roman Empire and it was captured by the Ottoman Turks. Resulted in Greek scholars fleeing to Italy They brought manuscripts, books and new ideas
  • The third course was that Italy was located beside the Mediterranean Sea this was a major source of food and trade/It made Italy a gateway for ideas and trade It increased the wealth of people.

Prior to the Renaissance a lot of people were illiterate people relied solely on the Catholic Church for information and ideas, the printing press change the history of education of people.
