Spontaneous generation was the idea that life could grow from unliving things. Louis Pasteur disproved this by conducting an experiment. Pasteur boiled sour wine, beer & milk to kill bacteria inside, then placed a swan neck flask on beverage & left it to cool down. Pasteur found using improved microscopes of the time that the sour beverage had bacteria in it but the beverage that wasn't sour didn't have bacteria. Process became known as pasteurisation & is still used today. The experiment proved it was the bacteria from the air that spoiled the liquid thus disproving spontaneous generation.
