Features of Effective Teams

• Team Size


  Effective teams have 4-6 members. If a team is too large, members may not all have the opportunity to contribute. If a team is too small, the danger of 1 or 2 people dominating the team exists.
• Team Membership


  Effective teams are made up of members that have a range of personalities, interests, age and experience. Some common ground will help team members bond, however a variety is needed to ensure members bring in different perspectives and thinking.
• Leadership


  Effective teams have an effective leader who can motivate the team, minimise conflict and support the team to achieve its collective goals.
• Conflict


  Effective teams are able to resolve conflict and move forward.
• Clear Goals/Roles


  In effective teams goals are clear and roles are defined for each member leading to clear structure and purpose.
• Strong Communication


  Effective teams communicate regularly to ensure there is strong commitment and collaboration between team members. This helps ensure everyone feels like a team member and everyone is clear with what their task is and how the team is progressing towards their shared goals.
