• Human nervous system 


  It enables humans to react to their surroundings and coordinate their behaviour
• Process of the nervous system:

  1. A stimulus is detected by receptors
  2. They send an electrical impulse down the neurons to the central nervous system
• What is the CNS made of?

  The brain and the spinal cord
• Three main types of neurons:

  • Sensory neuron
  • Relay neuron
  • Motor neuron
• Sensory neuron: carries impulses from the receptors to the CNS
• Relay neuron: connect sensory neuron to motor neuron in the CNS
• Motor neuron: carries impulses from CNS to effector
• Synapse: a junction between two nerve cells, consisting of a minute gap across which impulses pass by neurotransmitter diffusion.
