    • For children 6 years old and younger, signs and symptoms may also include:
    • Re-enacting the traumatic event or aspects of the traumatic event through play
    • Frightening dreams that may or may not include aspects of the traumatic event
    • The four subcategories of symptoms in PTSD include reexperiencing the trauma through dreams or recurrent and intrusive thoughts, avoidance, negative cognition or thoughts, being on guard, or hyperarousal (Shalev & Marmar, 2017).
    • The victim feels a numbing of general responsiveness and shows persistent signs of increased arousal such as insomnia, hyperarousal or hypervigilance, irritability, or angry outbursts.
