    Used to set for a type of sugar called a reducing
  • How to do the Benedict's Test. 1. put 5cm of each liquid/food in test tubes
    2. Prepare a water bath so that it's set to 90
    3. Add some Benedict solution to the test tube
    4. Place the test tube in the water bath using a test tube holder. Leave it in there for 3 minutes
    5. If the food sample contains a reducing sugar, the solution in the test tube will change from the normal blue colour to green, yellow or brick-red. The colour change depends on how much sugar is in the food.

  • How to do the Iodine Test for Starch
    1. Make a food sample and transfer 5.cm
    2. to a test tube.
    3. Add a few drops of iodine solution.
    4. Gently shake the tube to mix the contents.
    5. If the sample contains starch, the
    6. colour of the solution will change from
    7. browny-orange to black or blue-black.
