The Chemical Bonds (basics)

    Cards (5)

    • Three types of chemical bonds:
      ionic, covalent and metallic
    • Ionic bonding involves oppositely charged ions

      metals and non metals combining
    • In metallic bonding the atoms share delocalised electrons
Occurs in metallic elements and alloys
    • Metallic bonding occurs when metal atoms lose their outermost electron(s), forming positively charged ions that attract delocalized electrons from other metal atoms.
    • The strength of an ionic bond is due to electrostatic attraction between positive and negative ions.
