  • Test for Sugars by adding Benedict’s reagent and heat in a water bath, causing a brick- red precipitate
  • Test for Starch by adding Iodine. If Starch is present, sample changes from browny-orange to blue-black
  • Test for lipids by adding ethanol and shaking. Then, add to water and a milky precipitate forms
  • Test for Proteins by adding potassium hydroxide to turn the solution alkaline. Then, add copper sulfate If proteins are present, solution turns purple
