  • Which are the Earth's layers?
    The crust
    The mantle
    The outer core
    The inner core
  • The crust
It is where we live. It is made of rock.
  • The Mantle
The widest section of the earth and is made out of molten rock which creates convection currents which cause plates to move.
  • The outer core
Made out of a liquid layer and consists of iron and nickel.
  • The inner core

It is the densest place inside the earth as there is extreme pressure. It is solid.
  • What are the two types of crust?
    Oceanic crust
    Continental crust
  • What is the difference between the oceanic and continental crust?
    Oceanic- Thin, young and heavier
continental- Thick, very old, light and floats
  • What are convection currents?
They are the circular movements in the mantle which cause the plates to move
  • What are plate tectonics?
This refers to how the earth is divided into pieces called plates.
  • What is a plate boundary?

It is the edge where two plates meet and where most volcanos and earthquakes occur.
  • What are the different types of plate boundaries?
Divergent (destructive), convergent (constructive), transform, collision zones
  • what is a constructive plate boundary?

When two plates move away from each other and a gap is created which is filled with magma. This creates new crusts and new land is formed. example Iceland was formed this way.
  • What is a destructive plate boundary?
When an oceanic plate hits a continental plate it will sink beneath it since it is heavier. as it sinks earthquakes occur and magma will rise to the surface creating a number of volcanos call the volcanic arc.
  • What are collision zones?
When two continental plates hit each other since they are of the same density they are uplifted to form mountains. example the Himalayas
