  • Attitudes:
    • tend to be judgemental
    • can be positive or negative
    • can be prejudice
  • Cognitive Component: reflects beliefs + knowledge
  • Affective Component: feelings of emotional response towards an attitude object
  • Behavioural Component: how a person intends to behave towards an attitude
  • Cognitive Dissonance Theory (Festinger):
    • two ideas that conflict with each other on elements of discomfort or dissonance occurs, e.g. player wishes to perform to high standard, doesn't want to dedicate more time to sport
    • Affective: 'I hate going to the gym'
    • Behavioural: 'I do not need to go to the gym'
