    • when one window is left, broken may will->> when residents of a neighbourhood don't care about their environment low-level deviance tolerated eg. NY in the '90s (crime fell a lot)
    • zero tolerance response to low-level crime and anti-social behaviour->> ensure collective conscience, boundary maintenance, social solidarity
    • eval: policy coincided w/ economic growth and reduction on poverty->> correlation doesn't = causality
    ->> over-policing on ethnic groups and police discretion

    • children from lone-parent families more like to commit crimes but also more likely to commit low-level crime
    • crime may be seen as a rational choice->> PM: pros and cons weighed up and crime is committed out of thrill

    • inner city areas= transient and have social solidarity where migrants don't place roots
    • less self-regulation= more broken windows
