Stop and Search- SAS

• 2019- 56 SAS for every 1000 black people, compared to 7.5 for every 1000 white people in E&W

  may be unrepresented because of misidentifying individuals, when this is accounted for it increases to 158 per 1000 black people, 17.5 for mixed, and 17.8 for Asian
• stopwatch- black people 9 x more likely to be SAS under section 1 of PACE for suspected drug possession despite using drugs at a lower rate than white people
• London 2021- 70 SAS for every 1000 black people
• Jan 2022-23, MET police figures show BME people accounted for 5/8 of SAS, and 1/3 were black people
• black people 7 x more likely than white people to be stopped by police on suspicion of carrying weapons
• between 2020-21, Home Office found 77% of SAS across E&W resulted in no further action
