  • Light microscopes are cheap and easy to use, but they have a limited resolution and magnification. Only seeing the outlines of the cells.
  • Electron microscopes will stronger details including Organelles (sub-cellular structure) due to their higher magnification.
  • Magnification= image size / object (cell) size
  • Cells are only a few micrometers long
  • Convert um to mm by dividing by 1000
  • Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus which their DNA can be found.
  • Eukaryotic cells is Animal & plant cells
  • Prokaryotic cells don't have a nuclear, but their DNA is found in Plasmid.
  • Animal & plant cells both contain, cell membrane, nucleus, mitochondria, cytoplasm, & ribosome.
    • Cell membrane is semi permeable which controls what enters & leaves the cell
    • Nucleus contains genetic information (DNA)
    • Mitochondria is the site of respiration
    • Ribosome is the site of protein synthesis
  • A plant cell contains the following whereas an animal cell doesn't:
    • Chloroplast (Photosynthesis)
    • Cell wall (Cellulose)
    • Permanent vacuole (stores sap)
  • Bacteria reproduce by binary fission, which is the division of a single cell into two identical cells.
