Egestion

• Large amounts of water are absorbed form the semi-solid waste in the colon, which reduces the liquidity
• Undigested and indigestible waste (faeces) is stored temporarily in the rectum
• Muscle contractions of the rectum and relaxation of the circular muscle of the anus cause faeces to be expelled to the outside. The process is also known as defecation.
