      -> successful in showing of mutual wealth BUT Henry was beaten by Francis in a wrestling match.
      -> Wolsey is Pro-France and does not want a war. Needs Cardinal approval to advance in the Church
    • Treaty of Cambrai (1517)
      Peace between France and the Holy Roman Empire.
      -> Duke of Albany was sent by Francis to Scotland to stir up trouble between Scotland and England

      The death of Ferdinand of Aragon and established peace between Spain and France.
    • Treaty of Bruges (1521)

      A secret alliance between Wolsey and Charles V of HRE to go to war together against France during the 1521-1526 Italian Wars.

      Crucial moment in the Italian wars as it regularly involved conflict between France, Spain and the HRE.
      -> England was merely a sideshow
      -> Charles V was victorious due to the capture of Francis I and was held captive for some time
    • Anti-Imperial League of Cognac (1526)
      England was influentual in the formation of an alliance against the Holy Roman Emporer, consisting of France, the Papacy, Venice, Milan and Florence - known as the League of Cognac
      -> Wolsey kept England out of the treaty, as it was not signed in London as he wished, 'Arbiter of policy'
