  • Pre-Writing
    The process that happens before you start officially writing
  • As students, you have been exposed to writing even at a young age
  • Most of you do write well, however, some of you find it hard to start writing, you feel that you have to write something decent on your first attempt and in doing so, you end up not writing at all
  • The Pre-writing Process
    1. Steps in choosing a topic
    2. Try to write anything
    3. Figure out the relationships of the ideas that you've written down, you might be suprised that there could be a unified theme in your writing
    4. You can use graphic representations to show how your ideas are related to one another. Separate main ideas from the supporting ones
    5. Examine the ideas that you mapped out and identifiy which ideas are broad and/or general and which are specific
    6. Pinpoint one topic that you think is most interesting
    7. Understand why you are writing the that you are going to write, in other words, pinpoint your goal for writing the paper. Are you writing to inform? to describe? to pursuade? to entertain?
    8. Think of the people will possibly read your paper. Try to envision who they are, what they know about your topic, what they need to know about your topic, and how they should feel about your topic, what their attitudes are towards your topic, and what should their reasons for reading your topic
  • You have already followed the steps in pre-writing by choosing a topic
  • Freewriting
    • This is an effective technique to generate ideas because you are not constrained by the rules of writing yet, and so, you can creatively include any ideas you can think of
  • Clustering
    • This technique provides a graphic representation of your ideas, allowing you to visuallize the connection of your ideas
  • Brainstorming
    • This tecnhinque aims to genrate as many topics as you can, can be done individually or in a group. As the name implies, you rummage through your head to produce something
  • Once you have norrowed down your topic, ponder on the reason your are writing, or better yet, understand the writing assignment is for, since most of the writing assignments that you do in senior high are assigned by your teachers
  • Determining your purpose will help you clearly communicate your ideas to your readers, which is the goal of all forms of writing
  • Knowing your readers comes next, it is important to know your reader or audience as their knowledge, interests, attitudes, and needs will give you an idea on how to organize your
