  • Relaxation
    Being free from tension and anxiety, normally caused by the stresses of life which upset the body balance
  • A certain amount of stress is desirable as it can produce feelings of thrill and excitement
  • Preparing the room/cubicle for relaxation

    1. Warm, well-ventilated area
    2. Quiet area, away from distracting noise
    3. Low and diffused lighting
    4. Spotless clean environment
    5. Soothing décor in pastel colors
    6. Comfortable couch or mattress on the floor
    7. Clean linen and towels for every client, boil-washed after each use
    8. Light blankets for additional warmth
    9. Very soft, slow-moving music may be played if the client dislikes absolute quiet
  • Relaxation techniques
    • Relaxation response - total concentration on a particular object while trying to let go of all tension
    • Visualization - imagining pleasantly soothing situations conducive to relaxation
    • Progressive relaxation - developing awareness of difference between tension and relaxation, contraction followed by relaxation of all muscle groups
