  • Drama is a literature genre meant to be performed on stage in front of an audience. These plays are written and known as scripts as they explore and express human feelings.
  • Dramatic Techniques/ Devices- Authors use various devices when writing plays. These devices are known as dramatic techniques and are used to enhance the meaning of the play and the audience's ability to understand the play as well as the characters.
  • Act- a major division of the play
  • Aside- where a character addresses the audience in the presence of other actors shower their address is not heard by the characters
  • Costumes- these are the clothes that the actors wear on stage to assist in their portrayal of a specific role.
  • Dialogue- this is the interaction between the characters to propel the plot
  • Epilogue- it comes at the end of the play, it provides closure to the storyline
  • Monologue- this is a long speech within the play in which a character addresses other characters in the play
  • Play- a drama production onstage; generally divided into acts which are divided into scenes
  • Playwright- the person who wrote the script
  • Props- items used on stage which are costume eg. toy
  • Scene- a division of an act this is a sequence that takes place within a single setting onstage
  • Script- the written text of the play this contains dialogues and stage directions
  • Soliloquy- a speech performed by an actor alone on the stage. In this speech they express their thoughts and feeling aloud for the audience only to hear
