  • Personification: the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form
  • Hyperbole: exaggeration not meant to be taken literally; overstatement
  • Assonance- repetition of vowel sounds in a line of poetry
  • Alliteration- the repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words in a line of poetry
  • Onomatopoeia- a word that imitates the sound it describes
  • Simile- a comparison between two different things using "like" or "as". Similes use these words to show how two things are alike.
  • Metaphor- a figure of speech that directly compares two unlike things without using "like" or "as". A metaphor states one thing is another.
