Personification: the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form
Hyperbole: exaggeration not meant to be taken literally; overstatement
Assonance- repetition of vowel sounds in a line of poetry
Alliteration- the repetition of the sameletterorsound at the beginning of words in a line of poetry
Onomatopoeia- a word that imitates the sound it describes
Simile- a comparison between twodifferent things using "like" or "as". Similes use these words to show how two things are alike.
Metaphor- a figure of speechthat directly comparestwo unlike things withoutusing "like" or "as". A metaphor states one thing is another.
