  • Crime = an action that breaks the law (made by government of a country) - justice service enforce the laws and punish those who break them.
  • Sin = an action that goes against will of God - Some sins are crimes, e.g. murder. Some sins are t crimes, e.g. adultery.
  • Religions follow rules of religions belief and values (Torah, Bible) and believe if one of the rules are broken, person should be punished by society as they will by God.

  • Humans have free will and can discover what the right or wring thing to do is by using their conscience.
  • Catholics have a duty to inform their conscience by reading the Bible and asking a priest for advice, but have to take responsibility for own actions.

  • ABSOLUTE morality = when a person has rules which apply to all situations in all circumstances (e.g. It’s always wrong to kill = absolute rule)
  • RELATIVE morality = A person has moral rules, but is prepared to adapt or adjust them in certain situations (e.g. it’s wrong to kill, but if it reduces suffering it may be necessary).
