Relief rain Occurs in areas where land increases in height. In the west coast it is evident that the land is high as the amount of rainfall is high e.g Galway has rainfall that amounts to around 300 to 500 mm. The prevailing winds from the Atlantic Ocean brings air masses filled with moisture towards the west coast of Ireland. These air-masses are forced to rise over mountainous areas over the west. Relief rain is formed when air cools and rises over mountainous areas. As the air rises it cools and condenses to form clothes.
