  • simple sentence- contains a subject and a verb, and it may also have an object and modifiers. However, it contains only one independent clause.
  • compound sentence- a sentence that has at least two independent clauses joined by a comma, semicolon or conjunction.
  • complex sentence- made up of a main clause and a subordinate clause connected to each other with a subordinating conjunction.
  • compound-complex sentence- is a sentence containing one or more dependent clauses and two or more independent clauses joined by a conjunction or semicolon.
  • subordinating conjunction- a word or phrase that links a dependent clause to an independent clause
