Many people think it's more responsible to prevent unwanted pregnancies, from a personal perspective and concerns about overpopulation.
All Christians agree that having children is God's greatest gift to a married couple. It is God's will that children are both within marriage, but all churches accept there are some situations when it may be acceptable to avoid bringing children into the world. The reasons may be economic, environmental, physical, or psychological. The Catholic Church is not against family planning and thinks parents should use the rhythm method to space the births of their children.
Many Christians, as well as Muslims and Jews, will want to have a family but don't want every sexual act to potentially lead to a child. Anglicans accept people should only have as many children as they're able to care for.
Some Christians allow contraception to enable couples to develop their relationship before having children, or to space out the pregnancies to avoid harming the mother's health.
The Catholic Church teaches that using artificial contraception is sinful because the couple are not being open to new life and so are preventing God's plan. Its use could encourage selfishness or infidelity.
Many Christians agree some forms of contraception should not be used because the egg may already be fertilised and therefore conception has taken place. The coil and morning after pill prevent the egg from developing, which some people see as causing an abortion.
