  • Foul is fair and fair is foul hover through the fog and filthy air

    We are first introduced to the witches they say a paradox with two contradictory terms. Foreshadows the confusion and deception that is to come as they blur lines of morality. They also start to equivocate where they say one thing but mean the other. The "fog" represents the confusion. "filthy air" shows contamination evil ruining natural order and the great chain of being and telling macbeth to kill duncan.
  • The witches speak in trochain tetrameter to highlight the realirty of them being more powerful than the other characters. It also makes the readers fear them as it mirrors speech of incantations.
  • None of woman born shall murder macbeth

    Later find out macbeth was from "his mothers womb" witches equiokate and seem to be doing it fo entertainment purposes giving macbeth a false sense of security. The audience start to think the witches arent powerful but specialise in tricking and confusing people.
